Book Description:
Clicks – When you just know.
Born and bred to win, Cami’s family expects her to join a secret society called The Guard, marry one of the two identical twin boys next door, and stay on Pinhold Island for the rest of her life. But she has other plans: work beach patrol, win the Surf Carnival and get a sponsor so that she can leave Pinhold to compete in international surf rescue competitions and see the world.
Home to epic waves, black sand beaches, and the world-famous Surf Carnival, Pinhold Island is regularly voted the top surf spot in the country. People come from all over the world to ride the waves or just relax in the natural beauty and rejuvenating water. While visitors are jealous of the few hundred people who get to live there, sixteen year old Cami feels stifled and trapped by her small community and her family's expectations. Thanks to the intense link she shares with her twin brother Mica, she can't even be alone with her thoughts. As decedents of the ten families who originally settled on Pinhold, Cami and Mica are part of a new generation of extreme surf lifeguards who are expected to earn invitations into The Guard.
But a seemingly small injury knocks her out of the first event and turns her summer upside down. It's suddenly impossible for Cami to resist the magnetic attraction to Blake, one of the twins next door; the one she's never been interested in. Just as the Surf Carnival competition starts to heat up, the best swimmers start to drown. Pulled to the ocean floor, they're found barely alive , stuck in unexplainable comas. When Mica goes down too, Cami can no longer wait for those in charge to figure out how to help him. To save the lives of her brother and their friends, Cami must ignore what she sees and what she's told, and instead must learn to trust the clicks, her instincts, that help her find the truth in heart even when it goes against everything her brain thinks it knows.
About the Author
Amy Evans is a wife, mother, ocean lover and storyteller. She's created multi-platform mobile apps, social media games, and interactive story worlds for HIPnTASTY, a company she co-founded in 2001. She loves dolphins, aliens and pugs, and sometimes writes for so long they all look like the same thing. Clicks is her debut novel about instincts, a Surf Carnival, an endless summer and the hottest beach patrol on the California coast. Clicks are truths you can feel, the sounds that the universe makes when it warns you that your world is about to change forever. If you listen to them, you get on the wave before it crests; control your path, surf into your destiny. If you ignore them, the wave crashes around you, and you try desperately not to drown.
inspiration for
the first book of the Pinhold Prophecy
I wrote CLICKS
for the dolphins, my daughter and the environment. My entire life,
I’ve been inspired by the beach. Whenever I swam in the ocean, I
always felt like I was in the right place at the right time. It
provides peace and perspective for me on a spiritual level like
nothing else on earth.
In 2010 my family
was spending the summer in a small beach town on the East Coast. It
was a dream come true to spend that much time by the sea but being
on the beach that much really pointed out how much garbage washed up
on shore every single day. My turtle-obsessed four year old was
devastated when she learned that plastic bags that were all over the
ground killed animals in the ocean who at them instead of jellyfish.
Her insistence that we had to clean it up just like she cleaned up
her toys inspired me. It seemed so easy through her eyes.
The Deepwater
Horizon tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico still wasn’t contained, and
though it was technically far away, the beach just felt oily. oil
spill happened in 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico depressed me so badly.
I watched as human mismanagement ruined the natural balance of one of
the most beautiful places I’d ever visited. Like the plastic bags,
it wasn’t possible to simply clean it up.
Soon after,
dolphins started dying six times more frequently than before the Deep
Horizon event. Initially there wasn’t proof that the two things
were related, but every scientist agreed that the environment in the
Gulf was compromised, effecting the health of all of the animals,
which meant it had to be effecting the humans too.
I’d worked on
two separate projects involving dolphins and mobile apps so I was
tapped into the news feeds enough to know it wasn’t just happening
in the Gulf. Huge mortality events were happening all over the globe;
hundreds and thousands of dolphins were dying at once, and while
there are many possible theories as to why these mass strandings
occurred, there were no conclusions.
Like humans,
dolphins are at the top of the food chain. Because they spend one
hundred percent of their time in the water, and get one hundred
percent of their food from it, they get more rapidly exposed to
whatever toxins and issues hide under the waves.
This terrified
me. In addition to being smart, and playful, and beautiful, dolphins
represent the health of our ecosystem. The strain we are putting on
our planet is well known at this point, but it’s going to take a
new generation to grow up with conservation in mind at every turn.
This is my
daughter’s generation and I wanted to find a way for her to hold
onto to her innocent instincts – that the ocean was in trouble and
we had to clean it up and there wasn’t really another choice. And
from there, Clicks was born.
I made up Pinhold
Island, a place where dramatic beauty hides extreme danger. The
black sand beaches cover up a dormant volcano and epic waves hide
killer riptides. Few visitors know how dangerous Pinhold could be
because they have the best beach patrol in the country. In
twenty-five years no one has drowned in the water there. But the
summer the book starts, all of that changes. In order to save the
people they love and their beautiful home, Cami and her twin brother
Mica are going to have to stop paying attention to what they see and
what they are told, and focus in on their instincts, the
unexplainable truths that they just know in their soul.

ReplyDeleteI kind of blew the cover on the Leibster I thought, but it still seems to be kicking around out there.
I guess these are all just to promote traffic, but I am not too crazy about them. How do you feel about them?
